Just wanted to mention that Mastodon uses link rel=”me” and a rel=”me” html tags to verify ownership of websites and profiles: how it works.
If you wanted to let some applications be automatically verifiable, maybe something similar could work.
Unfortunately, at least for the purposes of verifying applications, I don’t think that would work:
- I don’t believe it would be easy for non-technical users to follow.
- I don’t expect applicants to run their own websites or otherwise have the ability to set those attributes.
I also don’t need a persistent way to maintain verification either, so something that is more temporary would be better I think.
Oh no my suggestion was meant as a potential alternative / additional way to verify, not a replacement
