Decisions:
- Community Circle meeting schedule was readjusted to every 2 weeks.
Notes:
- Due to a lack of clear communication before, many participants of the meeting were unprepared and confused.
- For this reason, agenda that was supposed to be discussed this meeting has been pushed to a future meeting.
- Acknowledged the need for more time as a week was not enough to prepare for a significant number of the participants who had outside obligations.
- Agreed that it would be in the best interest to have a synchronized schedule with other circles so that information can be tossed around naturally.
- During the rounds for the proposal to revert the meeting schedule, a concern was raised in regards to the need for casual conversation in between strict sociocratic meetings, and a suggestion to hold an “in-between” meeting was proposed. This will be discussed next meeting.
- During the meeting, due to the unpreparedness of many participants and inexperience with sociocracy, a number of “anti sociocracy events” happened.
- Many steps, such as taking attendance and writing down opinions first before the people that goes first can influence others, was ignored. It was agreed that such actions will be done better as we recognize the steps.
- There was an expression that the “opinion stage” of rounds was misused in this meeting, where different ideas not pertaining to the scope of the topic was also discussed. It was agreed after the meeting with less attendance that such issues can be discussed after the round, with not reaching consent acting as a cue to try again.
- There was a significant amount of people speaking “out of turn”, where two people would argue on their idea’s merits without respect to which stage of discussion the meeting was in. It was made sure that everyone was on the same page when it comes to the understanding of the methods of sociocracy after meeting, and decided to speak further on the nature of meeting and strictness when it comes to following the protocol, and decide together on the matter at the next meeting to not exclude any voices.
