Came here from exodrifter as this community seemed quite nice!

I’ve dabbled a bit in game modding before but I’m currently working on a C++ game engine meant for turn-based RPGs (made with SDL3).

I also have “plans” for 2 games I want to make when I actually learn how to make art for them (and when my c++ game engine is “complete”).

Awawawa, welcome in! I hope we get to know each other better ^^

When you reach a point you feel comfortable sharing, even if it’s still a work in progress I would love to see your game engine in Show Off.

Do you have any turn-based RPGs that you like in particular?

I like the Shin Megami Tensei series (mainly due to how it incentivises striking weaknesses) and also the Octopath Traveler series (really engaging stories, even if they get a bit nonsensical at times (especially in Octopath Traveler 0 and Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent)).

I probably will show off my engine once the battle system actually works how I want (right now, it just forces specific skills to be used (attack skills) and has no UI at all) while also getting rid of the temp music tracks (right now, I’m just loading temp tracks (acquired from various octopath traveler games) from an absolute position on my filesystem, mostly to ensure the audio works)…
Maybe I will also make a functional editor prototype too…
