We just hosted our first stream watch party for State of Play 2025. It was a lot of fun and I enjoyed it a lot!
However, now that it’s over I feel kind of weird about the chat retention policy now. When you go to the thread, you can still see the chat room for the event but the retention policy means that eventually we’ll just end up with an empty chat room with no messages in it. I feel a bit sad about this.
I originally set a chat retention policy to create some incentive to create topics, as they give them the unique position of being able to retain information indefinitely. However, the channels for the events get closed anyway, so we don’t need to have a chat retention policy to encourage this behavior. Now, it seems nice to me to have chat history not just to be able to look back for information, but also to see what the energy was like at the time.
Right now, the chat retention policy is set to 90 days, so that’s when the chat room will become empty. There’s no way to set a retention policy per-channel.
How does everyone feel about changing the chat policy to retain messages forever?
