Basically seems like self hosted twitch? Has anyone tried this? Tempted to use it for work stuff and wondering if it’d appeal to anyone here or would work for discord replacement purposes

KiriArtemisVT uses owncast as an alternative to her twitch stream. Seems pretty solid, though i’m unsure how feature comparable it is to twitch. Though to my knowledge the biggest problem is actually the bandwidth costs. Most cloud providers tend to charge you for those and a streaming platform can run up the bill pretty quick.
If you’re wondering about it form the perspective of the matrix migration, me and Exo have done some tests beforehand and the Element client for matrix actually comes with pretty solid audio and video calls.

I think i’m gonna try to set up an owncast soon. While it won’t replace twitch or youtube in the near future, i figure i should have something under my control which i can nudge people towards.
