That’s so awesome!! I love the MAGfest events- I’m hoping to make it to MAGfest east this January, either boothing or just going as a normal convention goer

Also I’d love to know the entire process of showcasing if you can :face_with_monocle:

@planet_bluto Ah, I forgot to respond to you! If you are still interested, here are some brief notes about the process:

  • Prepare for showing the game

    • It’s really easy to overlook preparation for the event. I find that I normally miss a thing or two (I should probably make a checklist). You need to pack all of the hardware to show off the game; make sure the build of the game is tested, ready, and installed (venues don’t always have reliable internet, if at all), tablecloths, business cards, snacks, something to take notes with, etc. I’m sure I’ve already forgotten something in this list already ^^
  • Setup

    • Events will let exhibitors onto the floor early in order to set up. Usually, this is a great time to bother other exhibitors who are done setting up to check out their game before it opens to the general public.
  • Showing off the game during the event

    • Everyone has a different way of engaging with the public during an event. I prefer to only talk to people once they are done playing or if they run into some difficulty. Watching how others play your game here is a great opportunity to see how people will actually react to your game, as it’s unlikely that the passerby is someone you know or is another game developer more inclined to be polite in their feedback.
  • Teardown

    • If the event takes place over multiple days, then you have the option to pack up your items to bring back with you to where you are staying or to leave them on the table. Some events lock the room overnight and pretty much all events don’t guarantee the safety of things you leave overnight. I recommend taking your computers back with you at the end of the day. Most leave their monitors, but I personally don’t do this either.

    • Teardown often happens very quickly, as everyone is eager to get back home. Make sure you see everything you can before this happens!

If you have any other questions, let me know!
