new user dropped

hi. im maidmage, a 3d generalist and fellow indie dev.

ive been learning blender since the start of last year (2022). currently my focus is on character art, but i’ve blocked out july/august to become a real deal animator. i want to explore making shorts and stuff, instead of just movesets for animation clips.

most of my current work is focused on starting up a VIPO on twitch to showcase my dev, alongside with some coworky chats whenever im 6 hours into a modelling session. here’s a screenshot of my avatar

and if you’d like to take a look at my avatar in action, click here

once thats mostly done, i plan to continue work on my current game No Space For Mech Pilots. Here’s what the two main characters look like.

Hi maidmage! Welcome to the forum

What is No Space For Mech Pilots about? I love sci-fi, so you have my interest.

Could you also explain what a VIPO is? I didn’t find anything about it online.

vipo: virtual interactive puppet overlay- doig swift has been calling game engine twitch streams like that. basically just a super integrated overlay, doing as many interactions as possible inside of the engine instead of OBS or something. so like tyjiro, mdxcai, and doigswift.

my game started as an entry to the most recent ludum dare, which had the “summoning” theme, so i wanted a game where you summoned drones and robots, and these would be like metal constructs you made with telekinetic powers. i’m still experimenting with the exact gameplay style, but I was originally trying to get the feel of like a starcraft RTS game mixed with a top down bullet hell. it might completely change once i get a playable demo going, and then ill probably just fallback onto some kind of action beat’em up or hack and slash like ratchet and clank or nier…

you play as a mech pilot and spend most of the game trying to reassemble your mech, while battling a government thats banned development of mechs, and youre being hunted down by mecha musume cyborgs.

its still like super early haha, ive mostly just been focusing on art development.

Absolutely messed up that you’ve only been doing this for 2 years. I’ve devoted almost 5 years at this point in 3d and I could not for the life of me do characters with that much style. Q__Q.

I can tell that you can make it into the industry with your skills! Keep developing them and a portfolio and all you’ll be missing is someone giving you a chance!

If you have any questions on more technical things of 3d, I can probably help. What I lack in style I kind of make up for in technical knowledge! Characters are kind of my weakness (I’m primarily a hard surface/environment artist but I do generalist work)
