I’ve noticed there are destination-specific share buttons when you highlight part of a post’s text and hover “share”. Currently those are twitter (which I doubt anyone here is keen to use) and email. Is there an option to add ones we’re more likely to click (Mastodon (https://mastodonshare.com/), bsky, reddit, telegram, etc), and remove twitter?
I guess parallel question: are share buttons something @exodrifter and others want as a feature?
here’s a funni: pressing the twitter button doesn’t even work lmao
Wow! I didn’t know that was a feature. It looks like it only works on desktop and it only supports Twitter, Facebook, and E-mail out of the box. Some brief research indicates that more platforms are available if I install the Social Share theme component. And yeah, the Twitter share link is broken for me too.
Honestly, I’m not terribly excited about showing preference for certain social media sites over others and I don’t feel like I have a good idea of what people would want. I also don’t find it to be a terribly useful feature either; I feel like clicking the share button to get a link that you can post anywhere you please has better ergonomics. On mobile, pressing the share button shows me all of the apps I have installed as options which is also nice.
Generally, I would prefer to be platform-agnostic and support things that have very well-known interop support, so I’ve updated the settings to only include e-mail for now. Open to discussion and feedback about it though, from users who would actually like to use the feature.
