I am working on turn-based narrative driven Noir aesthetic game. I am not an expert in pixel art and my skills are hobbyist at best. But I feel like I am getting better. Here’s some characters I’ve created. They’re of differing quality I think and I am still unsure as to how much dithering is too much dithering. But would love it if folks here can give me some feedback

I like the 2nd and 3rd one! I’m not really much of an artist, but I think some anatomical study would help with the first and last one.
The last one could probably use more dithering. Sorry to say, if you’re looking for someone to ask you to do less dithering, that’s not me. I love dithering

I love all of these! Each looks like a unique person and they are all super expressive. These are perfect for a game! One thing that works really well for me is that I can tell the same artist made all of them, your personal touch comes through. And I can tell you spent time polishing and putting effort into the shading/dithering. That feeling I get when looking at them–the feeling that effort was made–inspires me. When I see it in game art (especially little solo dev games) it makes me want to make games too!

Thank you so much! I had a lot of fun spending hours drawing these guys. I will keep working on polishing and creating more characters. I am relatively new to creating visual art, but I am really enjoying the process.

I hope you continue! The pieces speak to me so far and I can’t wait to see what else you would make! It would be cool to see more in this thread as you make them!
I really like this. What is your workflow like? I’m curious how you do the dithering.

Thank you! For dithering, I use an Aseprite Dithering Brush extension (Aseprite Dithering Brushes by xokem) for a first pass and then I edit the dithering afterwards with the normal brush tool.
Spent some time working on a priest character. Still not really comfortable with hands. But I had fun working on this (for way longer than I thought I would lol)
